Reflection

Erin's Reflection

From our various locations all over the country, I think our group worked well in exchanging ideas and developing a concept for presenting our topic.  All of our strengths were able to be utilized - whether it was building the website, developing an outline of our reading, or researching ways to use multimedia in our presentation.  We communicated through emails and the discussion board, and even attempted to use the chat feature on Blackboard.  For future projects, I think this feature will be a helpful tool.
Completing this project helped reinforce the idea that there will never be a 'one size fits all' model for education.  I hope to learn more about specific curricular goals that have been put into place to address globalization in various countries around the world.

Christine's Reflection

I thoroughly enjoyed working with my group (Erin, AJ, and Janet).  This project was a true collaboration of strengths and abilities that another format may not have showcased.  When AJ suggested the weebly website idea, I was intimidated at the thought of creating a website since I had never done that before (and I hadn’t heard of weebly before).  I was impressed with the weebly format; I checked out the general weebly site to see what it was all about.  Leaving the PowerPoint format was a step out of my comfort zone, but the website came together well because we had a great team that functioned as such.  Using this multi-sensory format also helped me to get more out of the article as I am a visually-oriented person.
I was also concerned that our communication might be lacking because I think I am the farthest west, but it seems to have all worked out.  The website format is also nice for all of us to “keep” as a memory of our initial learning of the theory of globalization.

AJ's Reflection

I had no idea what to expect going into a group project with people I had never met face-to-face, or in any other way besides a written "personal introduction" and discussion board postings. Surprisingly the online capabilities of the discussion board, email, and the group collaboration page (a live chatting tool) worked wonderfully. While we never had a real chance to get everyone together discussing at the same time, there was enough communication to create an entire website presentation on an article, and topic, we had read separately. I thought, as a whole, we worked collaboratively throughout the process - and I look forward to learning new ways of communicating and collaborating online in a group setting. This type of group work fosters and mirrors the global and international education opportunities that are already out there. As an educator I can't wait to bring these new tool to my classroom.

Janet's Reflection

When Angelo suggested the Weebly website, I thought this was a wonderful idea, but I was a little apprehensive because I thought it might be difficult to post the information.  This proved to be wasted anxiety.  Angelo organized our website nicely so that we could access our sections easily.  Christine did a wonderful job with the article outline making it easy to highlight important information in each section.  Erin's and Angelo's encouragement and constant communication helped to motivate me.  I learned much from the different sections of our website and the visual and video additions were enlightening.
After researching Globalisation and the Politics of Education, I began to appreciate the need for the transformationalist perspective.  I began to understand that there might always be a need to change (transformation) in political structures as well as some cultures and the belief systems of that culture.  This does not mean that a person should give up his or her cultural beliefs; however, they must be able to adjust and sometimes assimulate into other cultural environments for the good of the country or state because it is important for people of different cultures to be able to co-habitat while respecting each other's beliefs.
